Symptoms related to neuropathic pain

Sufferers of neuropathic pain often experience sleep difficulties and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety. This combination of pain, tiredness and anxiety is often a vicious cycle. Pain can lead to a poor night's sleep as well as anxiety. A tired body may be more sensitive to pain.

This relationship between pain and pain-related symptoms is called the "Paradigm of Pain"; in other words, pain can lead directly to sleep problems and psychological symptoms. This can have a direct impact on your daily activities and quality of life.

Paradigm of Pain

Because of the relationship between these three symptoms, it is important to treat the pain that is causing them. Although pain is the main element in this "paradigm" concept, helping a sufferer to sleep and feel better mentally is an important part of effectively treating neuropathic pain.
