Sleep and neuropathic pain

Problems sleeping have been reported by more than 88% of patients with neuropathic pain. Poor sleep can reduce your quality of life, decrease your levels of daytime activity, affect your mood, and make you more sensitive to pain.

Patients with neuropathic pain often have difficulties falling asleep and staying asleep. Also, the more intense the pain, the more severe the sleep disturbance. This lack of sleep can cause you to be more tired during the day and can cause other unhealthy sleep behaviour, such as napping or spending too much time in bed during the day.
