Helping yourself feel better

Your treatment is more likely to be successful if you talk to your doctor openly about your symptoms and participate in decisions about your treatment options. You can also help yourself in the following ways:

  • exercise at a mild or moderate level (after checking with your doctor)
  • learn methods of relaxation and stress control
  • learn to set goals
  • ask about home remedies and alternative therapies which might help, such as warm baths, cold compresses or acupuncture
  • contact other people with neuropathic pain through support groups or the Internet
